Today I got inside a computer for the first time in years (aside from the
annual shots of canned air) and of course it bit me. All is as it should be.

VQR? In 2021? Are you running a computer museum?

If it works, it works. I also have a running VQR-system, although
instead a annual shot of canned air I do a yearly pass of a vacuum
cleaner through its vent ducts. It just refuses to die, and I keep using
it (with period proper software versions, which makes it bloat free by
design).

Vacuum cleaners don't get all the dust out. Perri-Air didn't work to get all
the dust in the crevices of this one. The front panel had a metric fuckload of
dust behind it. And the removable filter, which I forgot existed, had to be
cleaned with water and a brush. (Brushy-brushy!)

I also forgot about the filter *under* my current desktop, which had slightly
less dust on it and was cleaned the same way. At least it was on bare floor,
not carpet.

I just retired a server that had been running non stop
for 17 years with nothing replaced. I did vaccuum the dust out of
it every few years though.

Well, I have hard drives with that tech, and a fear of SATA being the next
passing fad.

I've only had a couple of machines that didn't, and they were made by
IBM.
